Mogadore Reservoir was constructed in 1939 within the valley of the Little Cuyahoga River. The primary purpose of constructing this reservoir was to provide untreated water to the industries that were located downstream from the reservoir, as well as to afford flood protection to the Little Cuyahoga River Valley.
The reservoir has a water surface of 1,104 acres, 19 miles of shoreline, and a maximum depth of 24 feet. Boats are permitted on Mogadore Reservoir, but must be propelled by electric motors only. A handicapped-accessible fishing pier is located at the Mogadore Reservoir Marina providing those without boats off-shore fishing opportunities.
Mogadore Reservoir is located in southwestern Portage County, 3 miles east of Akron and 6 miles south of Kent on SR 43.
Anglers at Mogadore Reservoir enjoy catches of largemouth bass, redear sunfish, bluegill, black and white crappie, yellow perch, channel catfish, and brown bullhead. Channel catfish are stocked during odd-numbered years by the Ohio Division of Wildlife.
Mogadore Reservoir is also home to a variety of shorebirds and waterfowl including the Great Blue Heron and the Bald Eagle. You might even catch a glimpse of an Osprey diving for dinner. Cormorants, loons, and a variety of ducks have also made Mogadore their home.
Mogadore Reservoir is managed by the City of Akron Water Division. Mogadore Marina is operated by Bayhill Enterprises, Inc. For more information visit the City of Akron’s Watershed Management website.
